The primary function of an Account Clerk II involves the preparation, review, auditing and processing of financial and statistical records, reports and claims.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to effectively use tact, patience and courtesy in dealing with those contacted through the course of work; possess the ability to analyze situations involving rules and regulations while demonstrating good judgment in decision making; be proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Outlook; be able to locate, identify and correct inaccurate or incomplete data; work with other County agencies; prioritize, plan and organize one’s own work.

Under supervision, the Account Clerk II receives, reviews and verifies documents and reports for proper authorization for payment, appropriate codes, vendor’s codes, vendor’s numbers and other information; calculates, verifies and adjusts account or reports; calculates check/cash and prepares batches, groups and organizes deposit permits according to County policies and procedures; compiles, verifies and summarizes moderately complex financial data from a variety of sources to maintain budget controls for several agency programs; tabulates data in order to produce statistical reports and complies with federal/state regulations while monitoring internal policies and security; mastery of common office software applications, especially databases and spreadsheets. The Account Clerk II works with the public in providing information by phone and in-person to collect payments.
Controversial Issues: As an Account Clerk II, you must be able to accept clients’ differences and interact with them in a non-judgmental manner.

In addition to the education and experience requirements specified in the Merit Systems/Cooperative Personnel Services classification specification, Tehama County requires:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade

Requires a valid California driver’s license.
Requires a current, less than one (1) year old, valid typing certificate.

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment,
including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various County and meeting sites;
vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate
in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office
classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required.
Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard. Finger dexterity is needed to access,
enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to
operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop,
kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees
must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects, up to 30 pounds, as
necessary to perform job functions.

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature
conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact
with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing
departmental policies and procedures.
