Job Summary:
The Smart Workforce Center, a private, non-profit, public benefit corporation in Shasta, Trinity, Siskiyou, and Del Norte Counties, seeks a full time Accounting Specialist to join our team. The position is based in our corporate headquarters in Redding, CA. The Accounting Specialist provides accounting support under the direct supervision of the CFO. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Accounts payable, receivable and cash receipt processing
- Maintain accurate and complete records including ledgers, journals, invoices, and receipts.
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers to ensure accurate billings and timely payments.
- Perform bi-weekly staff payrolls to include staff travel and expense reimbursements.
- Generate financial reports and assist with resolving accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain human resource files, oversee employee benefits and perform new hire orientations.
- Assist with audit support as necessary.
- Display excellent organizational skills and accuracy in reporting
Preferred background or knowledge in:
- Accounting and Human Resources with experience in basic cost accounting practices, financial and statistical processes, budgeting, employment practices and labor law
- Software programs including Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
REQUIREMENTS
Any combination equivalent to two years of college in Accounting, Business, Economics, Human Resources, or closely related experience. Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
Driver’s License Required: Yes, Class: C
The position pays between $18.07 and $30.55 per hour and some travel may be required on an infrequent basis. The schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. We are closed for lunch daily from noon- 1pm. Accounting Specialist

Definition:
Under the general supervision of the Controller, the Accounting Specialist is responsible for creating, maintaining and reviewing financial and statistical records to control and disburse funds in accordance with agency goals and objectives, established policies, legal requirements, regulations and contractual agreements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Example of duties: Compiles, reviews and posts financial and client transaction data from vouchers, invoices, transmittal sheets, input orders and other source documents; determines, resolves and rectifies documentation insufficiencies or inconsistencies; evaluates appropriate cost allocation to funding source and cost category; creates and maintains customized data to facilitate journal entry; analyzes and interprets general ledger output to create specialized management reports for use in performance and planning purposes; creates and maintains necessary subsidiary ledgers and data bases to facilitate processing or control; posts to the general ledger monthly through statements; accounts payable processing including, but not limited to, appropriate determination of allowable and properly budgeted and documented transactions, cash processing and coordination of payable transactions; coordinates staff and participant payrolls; processes travel, support services and expense claims; maintains corporate property and liability insurance policies; maintains property records including inventory and preparing property reports; compiles data necessary to generate payroll and corporate tax reports; evaluates invoices, contracts, and modifications from inception to completion for accuracy and compliance with regulations; performs account and subsidiary ledger reconciliations as assigned; other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: Basic cost accounting; methods, practices and terminology used in financial and statistical work; applied concepts of budgeting and budget tracking; financial accounting principles; personal computers, Microsoft Word and Excel; government regulations, employment and labor laws, and the application thereof.
Ability to: exercise good judgment, interpret and apply policies and regulations; work independently to develop and manage procedures and systems; operate a 10 key by touch; type 50 wpm; effectively communicate verbally and in writing; sit for extended periods of time, operate computers and business machines for extended periods of time; demonstrate discretion in the handling of confidential information; meet deadlines, build positive working relationships and provide excellent customer service.
Travel may be required in this position. If the incumbent drives a personal vehicle while performing required duties, automobile insurance with approved levels of bodily injury and property damage must be maintained. The assigned supervisor or human resource administrator will advise the incumbent of the required levels based on driving frequency. The Smart Business Resource Center participates in the California DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) program. Employee participation in the EPN program is required.

In order to successfully perform the various duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods, handle or feel objects, tools, controls and reach with hands and arms, occasionally required to stand, walk, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, regularly required to talk and hear.
