Overview

Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for Wildcat Den Supervisor. This is a full-time, academic-year (1700 hours), non-exempt position. The pay range begins at $17.31/hr; placement in range is dependent upon experience. The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. The schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.

The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. Typically, the AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with Associated Students. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current Associated Students employees who apply for the position.

Wildcat Den Supervisor

SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Residential Dining Manager, the Wildcat Den Supervisor plans, organizes, manages, direct, and supervises the operations of The Wildcat Den, a coffee Shop in Sutter Dining.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manages all operations of The Wildcat Den. This includes oversight of food and beverage preparation, customer service, and staff management.
Selects, trains, schedules and evaluates student staff ensuring proper staffing levels based on operational needs. Prepares and submits required employment documents (i.e. new hire paperwork, time sheets, etc.) ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Enforces departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Makes recommendations as appropriate.
Oversees the cash handling process ensuring proper security protocols are followed.
Monitors inventory and places orders as needed. Ensures receipt of ordered items and proper storage and record keeping. Reviews and processes invoices meeting all required deadlines.
Ensures proper and safe functionality of equipment. Initiates repair orders or recommended replacements as required.
Recommends and implements approved short-range and long-range plans to meet changing customer preferences and varied needs. Participates in trainings in order to stay current with industry best practices.
Assists in the development and selection of menu items.
Ensures the use of proper sanitation and safety standards in food preparation.
Regularly updates the Residential Dining Manager regarding operations, personnel, and administrative information.
Acts as relief manager for Common Grounds and Creekside Coffee shops as required.
Represents the Associated Students Dining Services to the campus community, other organizations and the public.
Other duties may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Principles and methods of preparing espresso and blended drinks.
Operation, maintenance, and use of espresso machine, bean grinder, drip brewers and related coffee equipment.
Food service preparation and presentation, as well as sanitation and safety.
Customer relations methods and techniques.
Inventory management.
Basic mathematics and cashiering.
Plan, organize, direct, and supervise the production functions in a high volume setting.
Select, supervise, coordinate, train, and evaluate staff.
Establish and maintain high quality food standards.
Analyze food production, developing methods to achieve goals.
Ensure that food quality and selection meet the needs of the campus community.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, general public, co-workers, and those contacted during the course of work.
Work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
Demonstrate at all times cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year full-time or equivalent part-time experience in a supervisory position in retail food service or coffeehouse environment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a current and valid California Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain Serv Safe certification.
  • Post-offer, pre-employment physical.
  • Full vaccination status against COVID-19 or an approved medical or religious exemption per Associated Students policy.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.  Associated Students will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals any disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.   Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current Associated Students employees who apply for the position.
