BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II/III

DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING MAINTENANCE

SALARY: Beginning biweekly salary: Level I: $1,198.81, Level II: $1,311.43 & Level III: $1,435.60
A 5% step increase is provided upon satisfactory completion of the 6-month probationary period.

JOB OPPORTUNITY:
The County of Del Norte, Building Maintenance Department is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one (1) vacancy for
the position of Building Maintenance Worker I/II/III. This position is classified as permanent full-time. A standard

Candidates who meet all the minimum qualifications may be invited to an oral interview. This recruitment will
establish a list of candidates to be used in filling the vacancy as well as an eligibility list that may be used for future
vacancies or temporary help for up to one (1) year.

CORE COMPETENCE:
The Building Maintenance Worker position performs routine, skilled and semi-skilled repair and maintenance of
county buildings and/or facilities. Operates a variety of hand tools and powered equipment such as saws, planer,
router, shaper, sander, and drill press. Repairs and maintains furnaces, boilers, heating and refrigeration systems
under direction of specialized maintenance staff. Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical fixtures and equipment
such as conduits, interior and exterior wiring for equipment and appliances, wall, floor and ceiling receptacles,
controls, lights, and a variety of electrical motors. Acts as information source on specialized maintenance and
repair problems. Trains new personnel in performance of building maintenance and repair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Building Maintenance Worker I:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent, &
  • Valid Driver’s License &
  • Ability to read and write at a level sufficient for successful job performance and some course work or
    experience in building maintenance;

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Building Maintenance Worker II: In addition to the stated above, the II level requires:

  • Ability to read and write at a level required for successful completion of duties; &
  • Two (2) years’ experience; one (1) year as Building Maintenance Worker I level or equivalent.

Building Maintenance Worker III: In addition to the stated above, the III level requires:

  • Ability to read, write and perform simple arithmetic at a level required for successful job performance, &
  • Two (2) years’ experience in maintenance and repair including electrical, plumbing, locksmithing, and
    equipment servicing, and some lead person experience
    OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Paid leave: Vacation: 1-5 years of continuous service: 10 working days per year. Sick Leave: 1 day of sick leave with pay for each month of service from the date of employment. Retirement: The County is a member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) integrated with Social Security. Group Insurance: The County pays a portion of the employee’s group health, dental, and life insurance premiums with dependent health and dental care benefits available at group rates.

SELECTION PROCESS:
