Rate of Pay: $18 – $20 per hour DOE

Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of cemetery maintenance duties including burials, concrete work, operating heavy equipment (backhoe, tractors) mowing, trimming, general cleanup; repairs and maintains irrigation systems, applies pesticides, as directed; and participates in landscape installation.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Works under general supervision of the General Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Skills and knowledge in the safe operation of equipment, tools, materials, and supplies required to maintain cemetery grounds and buildings.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn District policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn California’s Health & Safety Code pertaining to District Cemeteries.
- Skill in interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn landscape and irrigation design practices.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn chemical application, safety around chemicals and equipment.
- Skill in operation and maintaining landscape equipment.
- Skill in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, funeral directors and staff, and vendors.
- Ability to communicate with and understand communications from others in English both orally and in writing.
Education, Experience, Certifications, and Licenses:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three years of experience in construction or landscape maintenance and design.
- Valid State of California’s Driver’s license and current DMV printout required.
