Overview
Under the direction of Director of the Childcare Center, the Child Care Teacher/ Aide Float will be responsible for helping to facilite the day to day operations of the all, Infant tos School Age Programs. The Child Care Teacher/Aide Float will monitor and ensure safety and program guidelines in their classroom, provide a safe, happy, and positive environment for all children, plan and implement all activities appropriate for Infant-6th graders, work closely with all public and private school administrators, and communicate with parents daily. The Child Care Teacher/ Aide Float will be an aide 2 days a week and a teacher 3 days a week.
Knowledge of:
- Title 22 Regulations
- Planning and implementing curriculum for Infant-6th graders
- Current principles and practices in elementary education and/or early childhood education
- Current classroom supervision requirements for staff and volunteers
- Family inclusion and education
- Completing observations and assessments related to the DRDP-K
- Infant to School-age environmental standards related to the ITERS/ ESCERS/ SACERS
- Basic computer skills
Ability to:
- Plan, organize and facilitate overall daily routine for Infant-6th graders
- Exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with volunteers, children, and parents
- Promote the program’s vision, mission and goals
- Make effective decisions and take initiative to take independent action when needed
- Work collaboratively with staff and Director attending weekly staff meetings
- Cooperate, respect and communicate effectively with children, families and volunteers from a variety of cultural backgrounds
- Complete observations and assessments by required deadlines
- Check email daily
- Communicate daily with families regarding concerns and or highlights regarding their child
- Communicate with Director in a timely manner about sick leave and/or vacation requests
- Supervise aides and volunteers and provide feedback as needed
- Provide developmentally appropriate discipline and/or redirection measures for children as needed
- Continue with training as needed for professional growth
- Become certified in CLASS
Qualifications
Required Licensing & Certificates:
- 12 postsecondary semester units in early childhood education from an accredited college
- Units specified shall include courses covering:
- Child growth and development
- Child, family and community
- Program/curriculum, plus
- 5 hours of health and safety training
- Six months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or similar program
OR
- 12 units or 240 training hours, or any combination thereof in:
- Recreation
- Physical education
- Human services and social welfare
- Elementary or middle school education
- Current California driver’s license
- Pediatric CPR/1st Aid Certification
- TB Clearance
- MMR, Tdap, and Flu immunizations or waiver verification
- DOJ and FBI Fingerprint Clearance
Desirable Qualifications:
- Associates Degree or higher in ECE/CD or Elementary Education
- 3 semester units of supervised field experience in ECE setting
- 24 units of ECE/CD including core courses + 16 GE units
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic and socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, children, and families
Preferred Experience:
- Teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing or
- Master Teacher/Site Supervisor Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
