Overview
Under the supervision of the Fire Captain, the Seasonal Firefighter provides fuel reduction of properties in the city, assists with fire department projects and programs, operates equipment, assists with local and state wildland fire suppression, supports weed abatement program and does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Utilizes tools and equipment to remove vegetation and other materials from properties that have been scheduled for abatement;
· Assists with programs and projects that fall under the responsibility of the fire department;
· Cleans, maintains, and repairs tools and equipment;
· Responds to fire, rescue, medical and other emergency incidents;
· Lays supply and suppression hose lines and operates nozzle to direct stream of water on fire;
· Raises, lowers, and climbs ladders;
· Performs overhaul and salvage operations;
· Operates radio, telephone, and computer equipment;
· Cleans and assists in testing of fire hoses and pumping apparatus;
· Cleans station quarters and equipment and maintains a clean and orderly condition in and about the fire house;
· Studies fire department rules and regulations, public education and prevention practices, and firefighting techniques;
· Participates in fire drills and training exercises;
· May be required to respond to emergency calls during non-duty hours;
· Performs other related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
