Reports to: Operations Director
Purpose: Prepares meals at Sabbath House, an emergency shelter for men & women , as well as meals to support community partners providing services to people experiencing homelessness. All of our staff have the opportunity to act as coaches, encouragers, teachers, and safety officers. This position requires a person to be able to multi-task, maintain patience, treat all shelter participants with dignity, use a trauma-sensitive approach and to guide participants towards self-sufficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Cleans food preparation areas as determined by law and company policy • Prepares foods to the specifications of the supervisor • Prepares food for set meal times within the shelter • Makes adjustments to food items to accommodate guests with allergies or specific diet concerns • Oversees volunteer teams in the kitchen as directed • Operates various kitchen appliance such as a blender, oven, grill, or stand mixer • Assists other cooks during the food assembly process • Cleans up after all food preparation. • Communicates with supervisor about how to improve meal service • Oversees shelter participants in vocational training programs

Job Type: Part-time, starting at $13.00 per hour
