Dental Assistant
The dental assistant is a gateway position into a career in the dental profession. The Dental Assistant assists dentist with dental procedures as needed and instructs patients in oral hygiene and dental education. The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing high standards of patient care, maintaining a positive, caring, professional attitude and working together with all staff members as a team player. The Dental Assistant consistently interacts with patients, the general public, and co-workers in a manner underscoring the organization’s quality and customer service commitments.


Qualifications  include: (1) High School diploma or equivalent  (2) California Drivers License  (3) Eligibility to work in the US  (4) Auto Liability Insurance

Clinical Practices and Procedures:

  • Organize treatment room for each patient: includes instruments and records.
  • Greet, seat and prepare patient for treatment.
  • Update patient’s form if necessary.
  • Develop a working knowledge of each patient’s record and where information is located within it.
  • Present patient’s history form to dentist for review at each visit.

Assist dentist chair side.

Sterilize instruments in accordance with OSHA guidelines; set up trays and put away instruments; sterilize exam rooms.

Clean up treatment room and operatory equipment in accordance with OSHA guidelines.

Coordinate patients and procedures; keep patient flow steady.

Chart entries into records as noted by dentist and present record to dentist for review, entries or signature upon dismissal of patient.

Instruct patients in oral hygiene.

Coordinate all lab procedures with dental laboratory.

  • Package and mail lab cases (outgoing).
  • Unpack and label lab cases (incoming).

Order supplies; keep exam rooms stocked. Pull tags for ordering in a timely manner.

Maintain dental equipment.

  • Lubricate hand pieces, clean vacuum system.
  • Clean impression trays
  • Turn off machines, fans, lights and equipment at end of day.

At all times be aware of patient’s comfort zone and do whatever possible to relax the patient and make them feel as comfortable as possible.


Help out at front desk (answer phones, make appointments, billing, file, check in patients) when needed.


Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to do extra work as needed, or on an intermittent basis.

May be cross-trained for other programs. Once trained may be required to work in other programs as needed.
