DEPUTY PROBATION OFFICER I
Under general supervision, to investigate, assess and manage cases involving adult or juvenile offenders; to supervise a caseload of assigned probationers and monitor compliance with Probation conditions of adult or juvenile offenders through supervision, guidance and accountability; and to perform related work as required.
This is the entry/training level class for the Probation Officer class series. Incumbents work
under relatively close supervision, performing the most basic assignments. As experience is
gained, incumbents perform more independent duties in Intake, Supervision, and Placement Programs. When the requisite experience and certification has been gained, an incumbent may expect promotion to the Deputy Probation Officer II level.
DEPUTY PROBATION OFFICER II
Under direction, to investigate, assess and manage cases involving adult or juvenile offenders; to supervise a caseloads of assigned probationers and monitor compliance with probation conditions; promote rehabilitation of adult or juvenile offenders through supervision, guidance and accountability; and to perform related work as required.
This is the journey level class for the Probation Officer series. The assigned duties are more
technical and complex than those assigned to the Deputy Probation Officer I. Duties are
performed with minimal guidance and supervision.

Please note that all written tests take place in Quincy, CA. Once the test is scheduled, you will be notified via USPS. Make sure you include your MAILING ADDRESS on your application. Everyone must test UNLESS: You meet the qualifications of a Deputy Probation Officer II (Please include certifications and/or diplomas with your application) OR You have tested with another California agency that uses CPS HR Consulting's Probation Officer Written Exam. The test date must be within the past year. You will need to provide a copy of the letter sent to you from the testing agency with your score. We typically receive the results of the test within one week of the testing date. You will be notified via USPS of your score and whether or not you passed. If you pass the written test or if you have been excused from taking the written test, your application will be forwarded to the Probation Department for review.
