Job Title: Early Head Start Program Assistant

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Plan to obtain, within one year, six units of college coursework in Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Social Services, or related field.
  • Current health screening.
  • TB clearance.
  • Proof of current automobile insurance required if using personal vehicle.
  • Fingerprinting required. Fingerprints must clear DOJ & FBI Live Scan.

Synopsis of Position This position works directly under the Early Head Start Program Director. Duties require independent action based on knowledge of proper procedures and agency requirements. Assist with the provision of services to Early Head Start children and their families and assess the quality of services provided.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in ongoing monitoring and program development.
  • Read, understand, interpret, and apply written and oral instructions.
  • Interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with co-workers, clients, and the public.
  • Work with committees and participate with parents in community activities.
  • Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with co-workers, clients, and the public.
  • Maintain accurate written records.
  • Participate in meetings, training and professional development activities.
  • Adhere to policies, rules, and regulations related to Early Head Start and Modoc County Office of Education (MCOE).
  • Execute decisions by the Superintendent.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Perform cleaning duties indoors and outdoors, including vehicles.
  • Assist with meal/snack preparation and grocery shopping.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Transport participants and perform routine vehicle inspections.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks.
  • Sanitize toys and prepare environment for child care.
  • Prepare activities for children during child care.
  • Escort children to designated activities.

Additional Duties Work situations may involve working with various organizations, management, and staff at all levels.

Supervisory Responsibilities None.

Work Environment Primarily office-based but may require attending off-hour meetings and conferences. The noise level may be loud.

Terms of Employment

  • Fiscal Year: July 1st – June 30th.
  • Contracted work days = 261.
  • Salary, fringe benefit package, and other terms and conditions of employment commensurate with education and experience.

Evaluation Procedure Performance evaluation will be completed annually by the Early Head Start Program Director.
