The Pesticide Supervisor provides daily leadership and supervision of Pesticide sprayers and applicators and Mother Block crew while coordinating spray applications with the multiple departments within the Production department.
Supervise procedures for collecting, documenting, communicating, and recordkeeping of pesticide use, including input of monthly spray reports.
Perform ‘crop walks’ to observe crop health, pest and disease issues.
Assist in ordering chemicals/fertilizers/PPEs and maintaining inventory and correct pesticide storage.
Train new applicators and workers in correct pesticide procedures and spray methods.
Ensure appropriate pesticide and safety incident investigation and follow-up are completed.
Assist with Fertility program via foliar sprays or fertilizer preparation and ordering
Follow IPM program and assist in making it more effective and economical to ensure least amount of crop damage or loss.
Conduct weekly scouting with Technical Manager.
Ensure compliance with pesticide safety and environmental rules and regulations.
Role model safe work practices and help create a Zero Incident Safety Culture
Insist on correct use of PPE when spraying and total respect of REI’s.
Complete pesticide paperwork/announcements/postings in a timely manner.
Lead team safety meetings.
Effectively prioritize, plan, implement and manage activities to meet targets and deadlines.
Pesticide application experience, including CA applicators license.
Supervisory experience required.
Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Some computer literacy for monthly pesticide reporting.
Prefer Bi-lingual – Spanish.
Able to work Saturdays and irregular hours for spray applications.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
General knowledge of pesticide application procedures and equipment.
Basic understanding of nursery operations.
Effective communication skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to work with general direction and oversight; ability to self-direct and use time effectively.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY: Supervise pesticide department and applicators. Assist in Mother Block supervision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is at nursery where work may be inside or outdoors and subject to extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. Is subject to lifting over 30 pounds.
