HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

(The current recruitment is for the Susanville Road Shop)
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Heavy Equipment Mechanic:
$18.33 – $22.08 per hour, plus benefits package
Equipment Mechanic
$16.71-$20.11 per hour, plus benefits

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic under general direction, is the full journey-level class responsible for major and minor repair services to a wide variety of County automobiles, trucks, tractors and other power
driven road related equipment.. The major duties of the job include:
• Inspect automobiles, trucks and related equipment to locate and determine the extent of necessary overhaul or repair.
• Perform general overhaul and repair work on gasoline and diesel powered engines.
• Inspect, adjust and replace necessary units and related parts including valves, hoses, belts and alternators.
• Repair cooling, fuel and exhaust systems; tune engines using standard testing equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance work on vehicles including lubrication and oil changes.
• Maintain records on maintenance and repair work performed; may drive equipment as necessary.
• Clean and maintain the garage area and equipment.
• Use various hand and power driven shop tools including welding equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
The Equipment Mechanic under detailed instruction and assistance is the sub-journey level class responsible for routine repairs and service to a wide variety of County Automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other
power driven road related equipment. The major duties of the job include:
• Performs basic inspection of automobiles, trucks, and related equipment to locate and determine the extent of minor or routine repair.
• Perform general maintenance and repair work on gasoline and diesel powered engines such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other automotive and mechanical equipment.
• Under technical supervision, inspects, adjusts, and replaces unites and related parts.
Assists with cooling, fuel, and exhaust system repairs; tunes engines using standard testing equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance work on vehicles including lubrication and oil changes.
• Maintains records on maintenance and repair work performed; may drive
equipment as necessary.
• Clean and maintain the garage area and equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by technical trade courses in diesel mechanical maintenance.

Experience: Two years of responsible experience performing repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or other power driven equipment.

License: Possession of or ability to obtain and retain a valid California Class B driver’s license.
NOTE: Must provide own hand tools.
Equipment Mechanic
Education Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Vocational training in automotive/truck repair is preferred.

Experience: One year of responsible experience performing repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or other power driven equipment.

License: Possession of or ability to obtain and retain a valid California Class A driver’s license.
NOTE: Must provide own hand tools.
