Empower Tehama seeks an experienced Housing Specialist to assist program participants with identifying and addressing barriers to obtaining and retaining permanent housing. 

Empower Tehama is a nonprofit organization in rural Northern California. Our mission is to promote healthy relationships and social change in our communities. We offer many services for individuals and families affected by domestic violence including crisis intervention, support advocacy, legal services, housing assistance and counseling.

About the Job: The Housing Specialist provides crisis intervention counseling, advocacy, and support; accompaniment and transportation; mentorship and support for clients in developing everyday life skills. The Housing Specialist will determine client eligibility for various programs and assistance, process referrals, and determine program placement/enrollment; serve as a liaison between the agency, clients and the landlords; develop relationships and maintain rapport with client landlords/property owners and other outside agencies. This position is part of an overall team that provides a wide range of housing services to clients including case management, legal assistance, documentation of services provided and fostering relationships with outside agencies, landlords and other project partners.

Must be proficient in Outlook and have working knowledge of WORD and Excel. This position requires general knowledge of local community resources. Must be trauma informed and able to work with high-risk populations. Strong active listening skills, professional phone etiquette, good decision-making, attention to detail and a non-judgmental attitude.

This position is fulltime (40+ hours per week). Staff may be required to work weekends and/or after hours. Upward mobility is available from this position.
