Position: IT Technician

The IT Technician is responsible for maintaining existing applications and networks, installing, and configuring new hardware, software, and solving problems as they are discovered in a logical manner. The IT Technician is responsible for maintaining and updating tasks in the IT ticketing system and making recommendations on hardware and software upgrades to keep network systems current and to keep up with increasing demand.  This position also assists the IT Manager with various projects and tasks and must be able to communicate clearly and effectively while working with staff and outside suppliers. 

II.        Typical Job Functions

Typical functions may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, and other characteristics.  The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Monitors the ticketing system through Jira (or similar) and provides help desk personnel support.
  • Assists users in moving and assembling desktop computer equipment, software, and other components between offices, as well as help with the set-up of remote access on an as-needed basis.
  • Cleans data off old systems before configuring and re-assigning to new users.
  • Collaborates with third party IT service providers and software vendors to resolve technical issues.
  • Installs and maintains desktop and server software, licensing administration, and hardware asset tracking.
  • Documents internal IT processes as well as How-To guides for end users.
  • Sets up and monitors firewall maintenance, antivirus, and performs other security related tasks.
  • Administers server upgrades, replacements, and server maintenance.
  • Applies system backup maintenance, networking (hardware, software, cabling) and disaster recovery auditing.
  • Creates and deactivates accounts, user profile administration, monitors the active directory, and group policy administration.
  • Designs, creates, and/or maintains reports in SQL, Crystal Reports, Syspro Report Writer, and Microsoft Access.
  • Monitors SQL development and SQL server administration.
  • Creates and maintains internal software (primarily utilizing C# and Visual Studio).
  • Works on troubleshooting customer issues over phone and email.
  • Assists Tech Support with service calls as needed.
  • Occasionally performs upgrades or will need to be available on call outside of normal business hours
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


III.        Ability to:

  • Use tact, initiative, prudence and independent judgement within general policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow-up on assignments.
  • Observe safe work methods and safety practices related to the work; use appropriate safety equipment; observe safe driving practices; wear and use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). TFI requires all staff members to fulfill all job functions in a consistent state of alertness and work in a safe manner.

IV.        Qualifications/Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Previous applicable professional experience and A+ or other certifications is preferred or used in replacement of degree.
  • Experience in manufacturing and implementing systems in production environments is beneficial.
