Assist the Director of Nursing with the overall coordination of the Medical/Surgical nursing department. Coordinates multidisciplinary team effort to provide high quality care in a safe, efficient, effective, patient-centered, timely and equitable manner. Oversees patient care, staff management, and the day-to-day operations of the Acute Med/Surg unit. Supervises and coordinates the activities of nursing and personnel engaged with specific duties within the unit. Audit’s documentation of other nurses. Completes assigned duties to ensure a safe environment and quality service.





Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
Current licensure in good standing in the state of California.
2 years clinical experience preferred.
2 years supervisor experience preferred.
ACLS, PALS, CPR and certification mandatory.

Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner.

Specific Competencies:


Functions as a team member and works collaboratively with the Director of Nursing, Nurse Supervisor, and clinical staff to facilitate day to day operation of the Acute department.
Provides leadership to facilitate effective patient care delivery.
Serve as a clinical resource to nursing personnel.
Displays strong assessment skills and ability to monitor the condition of patients under their charge, recognize changes in patient condition, implement appropriate interventions, continuity of care, and patient safety in accordance to policy
Coordinates with Acute Care and Emergency Department staff to cover meals and breaks ensuring compliance with policy.
Collaborates with the scheduling department, monitors the Acute Care schedule daily, and adjusts staffing as needed to staff the floor including call-ins. Covers call-ins and staffing shortages when all other resources have been attempted.
Assists the Director of Nursing in upholding
Maintains current and creates new policies, as needed.
Organizes the duties of the nurses. Ensures daily tasks are completed by acute care staff before leaving each shift.

Ensure staff accountability

Compiles statistical data and information for requested monthly or Board reports
Deescalates potentially volatile siutaitons involving patients or co-workers
Collaborates with physicians, administration, nurse management, patients, families and outside resources in managing care.

Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.
Completes annual education requirements if applicable.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
Attends all meetings as appropriate.
Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Mayers Memorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties.


Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.



Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
Able to lift 20 lbs.
