Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direction of the Acute Med/Surg DON and/or the Chief Nursing Officer, the surgery manager plans and directs the activities of the operating room suite in accordance with established nursing and hospital policies.
This job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Executive Assistant/District Clerk. Mayers Memorial Hospital District reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at MAYERS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DISTRICT’S sole and absolute discretion.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing with a current California Professional Registered Nursing license.
Minimum of 2-3 years of management experience and a scrub and circulating background.
Must be current in Surgical Services techniques, trends, principles and procedures.

Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner.

Specific Competencies:
Provide direction and supervision to RN and Surgical Technical staff.
General OR schedule in collaboration with physicians.
Directs department activities in a safe, effective and cost efficient manner to ensure optimal patient care that meets clinical and budgetary guidelines, planning and adjusting staffing for optimal patient care.
Provides clinical direction to staff.
Demonstrates clinical expertise in the execution of the nursing process and demonstrates proficiency in the provision of daily care.
Continually review and evaluate the staff’s practical application of knowledge and skills, providing additional training as required.
Resolves staff questions or problems.
Actively participates in implementation of Quality Assurance programs.
Demonstrates a good working knowledge of all equipment used in the OR, CS, RR, and PR.
Ensures all staff is educated as to use of equipment as needed in the position.
Ensures all equipment is maintained in proper working condition.
Checks the OR schedule regularly to ensure proper timing, equipment availability, personnel availability, anesthesia availability, and assistant MD availability.
Performs direct patient care as indicated by the needs of the surgery schedule and staffing level.
Schedules staff to attend and participate in in-service education in collaboration with the In-service educator.
On-Call for emergencies and additional duties.
Monitors cleanliness and working conditions of OR, CS, RR, and PR.
Professional Requirements:
Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.
Completes annual education requirements if applicable.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
Attends all meetings as appropriate.
Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Mayers Memorial Hospital District in the performance of job duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
Able to lift 50 lbs.
