POSITION SUMMARY:

Serve as point-of-contact and be responsible for all telemedicine activities at Mayers Memorial Hospital. Facilitate consultations between associates and public. Have direct contact with patients and physicians. Coordinate appointments, set up and test equipment, collect evaluation data, support physicians and other providers during consultation. Medical Assistant (MA) provides medical support to the medical providers and front office staff. The MA performs patient-oriented procedures under the direct supervision of a provider. The MA is responsible for providing patient care with a positive, caring, professional attitude working closely with other staff members to ensure quality care and a positive patient experience.

This job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Maintains current CPR certification.
Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
Knowledge of office organization and basic clerical skills required.
Basic working knowledge of videoconferencing / computer hardware and software.
Strong organizational skills, good communication skills, and be self-motivated.

Specific Competencies:

Serve as primary contact for scheduling of the telemedicine and videoconferencing equipment.
Organize on-site training for users of the telemedicine, videoconferencing, and remote monitoring systems.
Assist appropriate site staff to bill for telemedicine services.
Arrange demonstrations of the system for visitors.
Provide or arrange for basic technical support and perform or provide for general system maintenance.
Coordinate with the technical support team to ensure that problems and system development needs are addressed.
Assist in data collection and report generation.
Troubleshoot equipment and problems.
Triage incoming telephone calls and appropriately handle each call by obtaining adequate information to make a proper telemedicine referral, schedule the teleconsultation.
Prepare consult room and equipment prior to scheduled consults. Make sure successful video connection has been made and stand by during consult to provide technical assistance when necessary.
Coordinate and distribute current telemedicine clinic schedules, promotional material, documents, consent forms, satisfaction surveys, and various items of information to on-site medical staff and patients.
Publicize and promote Telemedicine to public, staff, and physicians.
Attend staff and other required meetings, coming prepared to professionally represent the telemedicine operation.
Maintain utilization logs and reports.
Assist in daily maintenance and update of patient records, mailing, etc in Records Dept.
Keep current with changes in Telemedicine, Patient Assistance and Medicare/Medi-Cal programs.
Attend monthly departmental meetings, reporting Telemedicine progress.
Complete and submit a prepared annual Budget to administration for approval each year by the designated deadline.
Evaluate and submit for approval all major and minor purchases.
Answer patient/family and referring physician questions appropriately and within the realm of knowledge/expertise, and expediently and appropriately relay the information to the proper clinician or to the Telemedicine Program Coordinator. Provide follow-through to ensure that all issues/questions are resolved.
Act as a liaison between referring physicians, patients, staff and consultants, clinic staff, patient accounts, funding sources, and other departments or services as needed.
Upon request, assist the consultant physician with scheduling the patient for clinic appointments, procedures or with a direct admission, if the patient requires hospitalization, as outlined in health facility protocols.
Maintain and secure any patient information retained in department
Warm Handoff/educational resources liaison to providers/patients.
Obtains patient vital signs with accurate readings: temperature, pulse, respiration, O2 saturation, blood pressure, height, and weight with proper documentation.
Reviews patient electronic charts for completeness, ensuring all relevant information for the visit is filed (i.e. lab, X-ray, consultation reports, etc.)
Assembles and arranges equipment and instruments required for exams and procedures.
Disposes of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards
Prepares and stocks rooms daily. Ensures adequate supplies and equipment are in each exam room. Discards outdates as appropriate.
Maintains medical supplies inventory and performing preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operating.
Coordinates all vaccines to include entering them into CAIR and placing orders of vaccines for VFC and private stock.
Performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times, including lab logs according to CLIA regulations.
Obtains prior authorization requests for medication coverage.
Readily locates and operates all emergency equipment (i.e., oxygen, emergency drug box and fire extinguisher, etc.)
Handles phone calls from patients and insurance companies accurately and in a professional manner.
Call or write patients with results as requested and document conversation in the EHR patient record.
Responds to all patient inquiries within two business days.
Manages referral work ques to ensure patients are attending referred to services and that reports for those services are obtained and filed in EMR system.
Process authorizations for DME.
Enter in RX refill requests, checking last CURES date with appropriate, providing last fill date and any other relevant history before forwarding to provider.
Actively participate in quality improvement metrics for grants and insurance quality programs.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
Is involved with personnel, visitors, and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients, and support agencies.
