Overview

**This position will run from approximately 05/1/2022 through 9/30/2022.**

DEFINITION

Under supervision to assist licensed professional staff in the control of noxious weeds for the protection of agriculture and natural resources. Reports to appointed licensed professional staff or Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Conducts pest detection surveys to locate, identify and control targeted agricultural pests, prepares, mixes and applies chemicals for the control of agricultural pests.
  • Performs a variety of routine maintenance and repair duties on equipment.
  • Drives to specific locations to verify noxious weed presence and initiate control measures.
  • Maintains accurate daily and monthly field notes, calculations, and reports.

Knowledge of:

  • Botanical knowledge helpful in plant identification.
  • Tools, methods, and equipment pertaining to noxious weeds species detection and control.
  • Tools, methods and equipment pertaining to trapping and insect detection and control.
  • Local agricultural industry and practices.
  • Safe operation of motor vehicles and all-terrain vehicles.

Ability to: 

  • Maintain accurate and legible field notes and prepare routine reports.
  • Learn and use standard computers and software and apply basic computer skills.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Read and follow maps.
  • Make accurate arithmetic computations.
  • Maintain cooperative relations with peers and the public; and
  • Work independently in the field.

Qualifications

Some knowledge of control and eradication of agricultural pests is desirable.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of application and a valid California Drivers License by the time of appointment. The valid California License must be maintained throughout employment.
Must be at least 18 years old. Must comply with pesticide label requirements and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while handling and applying pesticides.
