Description
The City of Redding Police Department is adding to an eligibility list for current and future vacancies that may occur during the life of the list. The Police Cadet program is designed to provide law enforcement exposure to those individuals with a serious commitment toward pursuing a career in law enforcement. Individuals in this classification support field operations, records, administrative, and investigative personnel by performing a variety of non hazardous police and clerical work.

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
- Performs filing.
- Maintains logs and worksheets.
- Answers phone and takes and provides information.
- Transports vehicles.
- Performs traffic control.
- Assists public at front counter.
- Serves subpoenas.
- Signs off on mechanical violations.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications we’re looking for
Knowledge of: Some basic knowledge of police procedures preferred; filing and recordkeeping; motor vehicles; city streets and addresses.
Ability to: Interact effectively with the public and employees. Answer phone and provide information. Read and write. Find addresses and people and serve subpoenas. Maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include a high school education, and current enrollment in, or completion of, classes in Administration of Justice. Typical experience would include office work, prior experience as a police explorer, or working with the public.
Special Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age by the closing date and possess the appropriate California driver’s license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment. Familiarity of typing keyboard desirable.
What to expect from the Application and Exam Process
Interested individuals must submit a City of Redding online employment application with applicable certifications attached by the closing date in order to be considered.
Veterans Credit: Veterans who have received an honorable discharge from the military service and receive a passing score on the examination will have 2 points added to their final examination score. To obtain this credit, veterans MUST provide a copy of the DD214, indicating honorable discharge, WITH EACH EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE.
