SALARY
$33.43 – $40.63 Hourly
$2,674.40 – $3,250.40 Biweekly
$69,534.40 – $84,510.40 Annually

Under general direction, plans, schedules, assigns, reviews, supervises, performs, and participates in routine and
specialized valuation work for ad valorem tax purposes; resolves valuation disputes; assists with development,
implementation and updating of office policies and procedures; and completes related work as assigned.

Examples of Duties

  • Oversees appraisal databases for accuracy and completeness.
  • Compiles data for, and the completion of the Sales Ratio Study as required by the State Board of Equalization.
  • Adjusts property values for property splits, new construction, change in ownership, calamity, depreciation, etc.
  • Assists, compiles, reviews and organizes Assessment Appeal activities and defends appeals before the Assessment Appeals Board.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance from various agencies and taxpayers; interprets office policies and procedures and confers with property owners to discuss concerns as needed.

Education, Experience & Licenses

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a degree that meets the certification requirements of the State Board of Equalization.

Pattern I

  • Six (6) years of current (within the last ten (10) years) of progressive appraisal experience in a professional office setting with appraisal experience equivalent to the Senior Appraiser class within Tehama County.
  • Certified General designation issued by the State of California or the equivalent designation from another state.
  • Supervisory experience or experience serving as a lead worker is preferred.

Pattern II

  • Three (3) years of experience in a clerical or business office-setting, preferably in accounting, auditing, or property appraisal; with at least one (1) year as Senior Appraiser/ Senior Auditor-Appraiser for Tehama County.
  • Supervisory experience or experience serving as a lead worker is preferred.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

License & Special Requirements:

  • Requires a valid California driver’s license.
  • Requires valid certification as an Auditor-Appraiser issued by the California State Board of Equalization within one (1) year of hire.
  • A valid advanced certification as an Auditor-Appraiser issued by the California State Board of Equalization is preferred.

Recruitment Information

The department is recruiting for one (1) vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future full-time vacancies for a Principal Appraiser , as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
