Limited Term – Sunset Position

SALARY: $20.40 – $24.80 Hourly | $1,632.00 – $1,984.00 Biweekly

This is a limited term position with a sunset date of 3/1/2026.

Definition:
Under general supervision, troubleshoots, maintains, and does minor repairs on emergency vehicles and equipment; operates and maintains a variety of hand, power, and shop tools.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs minor equipment repairs and maintenance tasks, including locating and diagnosing mechanical defects; performs minor repairs on various types of motors and valves, gasoline, and diesel engines, referring more complex repair needs to outside contractors for completion.
  • Maintains records on maintenance and repair work performed, work orders, and inspection reports.
  • Ensures the proper usage, maintenance, repair, and storage of all tools and equipment.

Education, Experience & Licenses

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Atypical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college-level coursework in the automotive maintenance and repair field.
  • One (1) year of work in automotive, heavy equipment and/or emergency equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

License and Special Requirements:

  • Requires a valid California driver’s license.
  • Requires incumbent to provide own set of basic mechanic tools.
  • Other certification(s) specific to functional area of assignment may be required.

The department currently seeking to fill one (1) Sunset position.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Public Safety Vehicle & Equipment Mechanic I, as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
