Public Works Maintenance Worker III: $3,297-$3,874/Month
The City of Biggs is seeking qualified candidates for the Public Works maintenance II or the level III/Freshwater operator position DOQ. Under the direct supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, the primary responsibilities for this position would be to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, maintenance of water, sewer, streets, storm drains, parks, and buildings.
Example of duties:
Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment, including work trucks, dump truck, street sweeper, backhoe, forklift, tractor, and riding lawn mower. Operation of the Jet truck and aerial truck will be required, a class B license will be required within 6-months.
Construct and maintain City streets, right of ways, sidewalks, curb and gutters, water distribution system, sewer collection system, storm drains and facilities, park grounds and building maintenance. Operate a variety of powered tools, including drills, chain saws, leaf blower, whacker, vibration plate, jack hammer, push mower, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, compactor/roller, etc.
Operate a variety of Public Works maintenance equipment.
Read, interpret, and follow work orders, plans and specifications.
Perform heavy physical labor in a variety of adverse conditions.
Public Works Maintenance II: Minimum: Possess and maintain a valid class C driver’s license, possess or obtain class B license within six months of date of hire, high school diploma or G.E.D. Read and write English. One year of experience in Public Works facilities construction and maintenance, or related maintenance work, preferably in a Public Works setting.
Public Works Maintenance III/Freshwater operator: Minimum: Possess and maintain a valid class C driver’s license, possess or obtain class B license within six months of date of hire, high school diploma or G.E.D. Read and write English. One year of experience in Public Works facilities construction and maintenance, or related maintenance work, preferably in a public works setting. Must have some working knowledge of water well operations and maintenance.
Retirement: The city participates in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) under a 2% at 60 formula for classic members and 2% at 62 formula for new members.
Health Insurance: The City contributes up to 80% of the monthly premium for coverage of employee and dependents with a cap at $2,000 per month per employee.
Other Benefits: City contributes 80% of dental insurance for employees and dependents, 100% of vision care insurance for employees and dependents, and 100% cost of life insurance and AD&D insurance for employees.
Holidays: 12 paid holidays per year.
Vacation: 12 days per year.
Sick Leave: 12 days per year.
Maintenance worker II: Possess or obtain Class B license within six months hire date.
After six months or at Superintendent’s discretion, personnel will be on call rotation for after hours and weekend standby, as well as some holidays.
Maintenance worker III/Freshwater operator: Hold valid water treatment I certificate. Possess valid class B license or obtain within six months of hire date. Incentive stipend paid for wastewater certificate. After six months or at Superintendent’s discretion, personnel will be on call rotation for after hours and weekend standby and weekend water and sewer rounds, including some holidays.
Become a member of the Union, pay an initiation fee and pay monthly dues.
