Overview

The Outpatient Specialist coordinates the Rural Health Clinic patient visit summaries, and prints orders for any ancillary tests ordered during the visit.  Registers patients for same day ancillary tests and initiates the authorization and scheduling process as needed. Provide patients with prep instructions for any tests and discharge instructions at time of check-out.   Verify demographic and insurance information for the electronic medical records and billing purposes.  Creates patient estimates as appropriate, verifying eligibility and coverage.

Qualifications

Education:   High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Two years experience in a health care environment preferred.

Experience:  At least 1-3 years of customer service preferred.

At least, 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

Experience with database software applications desired.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  Data entry and the ability to type a minimum of 25 words per minute Microsoft Excel/Word and good mathematical, reading and writing skills required.  Superb customer service, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.  Must be able to work with minimal supervision.  Efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task.  Strong understanding and comfort level with computer systems.
