Overview
The Modoc County Road Department has one opening for a Road Maintenance Worker in Alturas. Applications are now being accepted. Applicants’ experience will determine which level will be offered.
Wage Rate:
- Worker I | $2,619 to $3,343/month
- Worker II | $2,892 to $3,691/month
Worker I is an entry-level position to learn and perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, and rights of way. Skills required include: using and maintaining commonly used hand/power road maintenance tools and equipment; making accurate arithmetic calculations; understanding and following oral and written directions; performing heavy physical labor on a regular basis; preparing basic records and reports of work performed; and working without close supervision in standard work situations. The position requires a valid “Class A” Drivers License, graduation from high school or equivalent, and one year of general maintenance training or experience. If selected, applicant will be required to obtain a valid Class A license within 6 months of his/her hire date. The expense of the testing will be borne by the applicant and the applicant will be responsible for finding a suitable vehicle for the driving test (no County vehicle will be used for the driving test).
Worker II is a full working level position with all the skills and abilities of a Worker I, plus the ability to operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy construction equipment, and the ability to direct the work of a crew on a project basis. In addition to all the skills and requirements of a Worker I, the Worker II is required to have two years of experience in road and related maintenance work. Applicant must have a current Class A license to be considered for this position.
