Overview

The Sierra County Department of Building and Planning is recruiting for a Senior Planner

DEFINITION

Under general direction:

• Prepares and administers the General Plan, specific plans, zoning ordinances and development regulations

• Reviews, analyzes, and processes development plans and applications for subdivisions, lot line adjustments, conditional use permits and other land use entitlements

• Prepares detailed reports, makes recommendations, and presents projects and proposed policy changes at public hearings

• Reviews ministerial building permit plans and grading plans for conformance with state and local codes and regulations

• Conducts field inspections for development projects, grading, and surface mines

• Responsible for zoning code enforcement

• Administers the County’s Floodplain Management Ordinance

• Coordinates and collaborates with numerous other county departments and offices, as well as local, state, and federal agencies

• Conducts environmental review (within areas of competence) and prepares reports, CEQA initial studies, official notices, and final documents; and drafts and enforces mitigation measures and monitoring plans

• Prepares Requests for Proposals (RFPs), administers and manages professional consulting contracts and coordinates the work of planning consultants

• Trains and supervises subordinate staff

All Sierra County employees and volunteers are deemed Disaster Service Workers pursuant to California Government Code Section 3101

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate would possess a combination of related education and experience as follows: • Bachelors degree • Bachelors degree in related field • Graduate degree • Graduate degree in related field • Substantial work in college courses • Completion of the twelfth grade, or GED • Substantial relevant work experience with progressive advancement • Relevant supervisory responsibility and experience • Professional certification (AICP or similar) • Substantial continuing education

Special Requirements

Must have a driver’s license and satisfactory driving record upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
