Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Food Service Support Coordinator and supervision of the Site Administrator, assists in preparation, production and service of a variety of nutritionally balanced meals from fresh, canned, dry or frozen states according to recipes.  Provides information necessary for the Food Service II to complete documentation as needed.  Maintains clean and sanitary conditions to ensure passage of food program inspections.  Practices safe food handling according to Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.

During the regular course of work, the Food Service I may have access to sensitive information.  It is expected that all employees of the Susanville School District will not release any sensitive information regarding students, parents/guardians, or staff.

Minimum Qualifications Include:

●          High School Diploma or Equivalent

●          Experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation

●          Passage of District’s Food Service Exam

●          ServSafe certified or willing to become


Knowledge of the National School Lunch program nutritional requirements.  Ability to prepare and serve meals following nutritional requirements.  Ability to work in cooperation with others and provide customer service.  Ability to use and care for institutional kitchen equipment and utensils. Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing methods using proper chemicals and cleaning agents in a food service environment.  Ability to apply and maintain standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene.  Knowledge of principles of kitchen safety.  Knowledge of basic math and the ability to apply in a food service setting.  Ability to read, write and communicate in Basic English.  Ability to work rapidly and efficiently.  Ability to follow written recipes and verbal instructions.  Ability to operate computers and knowledge of software used by the Food Service Program.

Essential Functions:

●          Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of meals as specified by the menu, recipes and production records

●          Sets up food service areas and serves food

●          Operates kitchen equipment and utilizes kitchenware

●          Practices safe food handling according to Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HAACP) and Lassen                                          County Health Department

●          Monitors consumption preferences to reduce and manage food waste

●          Cleans and sanitizes pots, pans, and kitchenware daily

●          Performs daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning of service areas, and all kitchen equipment such as                                                 counters, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, mixers, mobile carts, and rolling racks

●          Receives, labels, stores and disposes of food and supplies according to produce and Food Service HACCP                                           Standards

●          Assists with inventory and food/supply orders needed for meal preparation

●          Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with staff, students, parents,                                              administrative personnel and others contacted in the course of work

●          Performs other related duties as assigned

High School Diploma or Equivalent. One-year experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation. Passage of District Food Service Test.
