JOB TITLE: Teacher – Alternative Education (743)

WORK YEAR: Full time: 7 hours per day/Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:00 pm/11 months/183 days annually (Prorated upon hire)

START DATE: August 9, 2022

SALARY: Salary Schedule 04, $241.43 to $588.56 daily. Annual stipend pay: Master’s $1,200 or Doctorate $2,000 (Prorated upon hire)
Placement on salary schedule is dependent upon how many years of full-time certificated experience you have, as well as your level of education above and beyond your Bachelor’s Degree.
Newly hired personnel will be credited on a year-for-year basis with a maximum of eleven (11) years verified certificated experience for previous public or private service if such service has been rendered under contract in an accredited system. For experience exceeding eleven (11) and up to nineteen (19) years, personnel will be credited with one (1) year additional step placement for every two years of experience not to exceed sixteen (16) steps at initial placement

Under the direction of the Program Administrator or his/her designee, the County Community School teacher provides learning experiences for at-risk youth in, but not limited to: academics, social and emotional growth/development, character building, job skills, and career planning. County Community
School teacher will partner with various agencies such as county probation, mental health, foster youth, and others as needed to support the well-being of the whole child
Teacher will participate in a systematic collaborative process with school site teachers and staff along with other County teachers to analyze student data to enhance professional practices resulting in improved student achievement. The County Community school teacher will work diligently to assess and meet each student’s learning and academic needs to guide instruction; maintain a safe and orderly learning environment; establish school-home relationships; emphasize academic learning utilizing effective instructional strategies, and culturally relevant curriculum to support student achievement.

Due to the wide range in aptitude, background knowledge, experience, skills, and achievement, instruction is provided at various grade and skill levels using differentiated materials and instructional practices. Instruction is based on building the educational and social success of the group or particular individual, including an emphasis on student resiliency and targeted instruction for at-risk students.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (May include, but are not limited to the following)
1. Provide individualized instruction and intervention for at-risk youth in a variety of core subjects and specialized subject areas as assigned to prepare students for transitions and promotion/graduation
2. Facilitate groups to provide instruction and guidance on special programs such as alcohol and drug abuse, anger management and others
3. Provide an enriched learning environment through the use of special programs/activities, technology, audiovisual aids, auxiliary books and materials
4. Utilize effective character based strategies to provide a safe, quality environment for students
5. Participate and collaborate as a member of an educational Professional Learning Community, as well as in advisory committees, staff meetings, staff development, yard duty, bus duty, clubs, coaching, other extracurricular activities and special projects as assigned
6. Mentor students to foster self-esteem and academic success
7. Guide and support site-staff and volunteers assigned to the program

4. Identify current issues and trends in alternative education programs and effectively utilize this information in program coordination and improvement
5. Assessments in relation to student achievement and social emotional awareness and growth

4. Assist students in developing problem solving skills
5. Utilize positive classroom discipline approaches
6. Develop a collaborative relationship with general education schools to support successful student transitions
7. Work cooperatively with staff, parents, families, community partners to assist with program implementation
8. Communicate effectively orally and in writing
9. Recognize the needs of students in difficult circumstances and effectively support them in a learning and/or recreational environment
10. Build success with students in fostering civic responsibility and developing positive self-concept
11. Model communication and interactions that respect individuality including ethnicity, socio economic status, language, learning abilities, gender and sexual identity
12. Maintain accurate records

1. Valid California teaching credential authorizing teaching in a self-contained classroom (e.g., Multiple Subject, Standard Elementary)
2. Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and liability insurance
3. Willingness to work in nontraditional school settings with at-risk students

1. Experience and/or training working with at-risk youth
2. Knowledge and experience in design and implementation of behavior modification techniques
3. Valid English Learner authorization (e.g., CLAD, BCLAD, or SDAIE)

Credential Information
This position requires a valid, unexpired CA Preliminary, Clear or Life General Education Teaching Credential based on bachelor’s degree and student teaching. The candidate selected for this position should have knowledge and training that best fulfills the needs of the students. Ed Code §44865 requires consent from teachers who have teaching assignments outside of their credential authorization(s). This written consent will be obtained upon hire. Intern Credentials and Emergency Permits are not authorized for this position.
