Transporter (Extra Help) for Senior Nutrition program

$13 per hour /

NATURE OF WORK: Under general supervision of the Community Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for transporting clients, food and supplies to and from agency sites throughout Tehama County. This job opportunity is for the Senior Nutrition program.

TYPICAL DUTIES: Essential functions of this position requires frequent bending, twisting and getting in and out of transport van to deliver meals. Lifting requirement of up to 50 pounds frequently.

Follows a daily assigned route. | Picks up designated clients at their homes and transports them to their destination. | Delivers meals to homebound clients. | Carries a secured money box, receives donations from homebound clients and congregate sites and turns it in to the Community Services Supervisor on a daily basis. | Gives assistance when needed to clients boarding or leaving vehicles, to include but not limited to: loading assistive walking devices, oxygen, holding umbrellas, fastening and unfastening seat belts and verbal prompts and encouragement. | Performs “health and welfare” checks at clients’ residences, provides emergency assistance as needed. | Maintains detailed records of vehicle service checks and mechanical repairs of vehicles. | Keeps vehicles clean, checks oil, fuel and tires daily. Informs Community Services Supervisor of any client health changes or unsafe home conditions. | Maintains accurate records of daily activities. | Periodically checks temperature of last meal served of the day for home delivery, for proper temperature and food safety. | Analyzes seniors at home, refers to services if needed. | Performs other related duties as assigned.

ABILITY TO: Safely operate vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws | Load and unload a delivery vehicle, ensuring all items and supplies are properly secured | Perform routine maintenance on vehicles | Maintain bookkeeping and inventory records | Work independently and as a team member | Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing | Transport clients with medical assistive devices such as wheelchairs and walkers | Communicate effectively with elderly and/or ill clients who may also have difficulty hearing | Assess basic wellbeing of clients | Make decision to call for assistance from coordinator | Emergency medical assistance if client is in need.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: • Graduation from High School or GED equivalent. • Considerable knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

LICENSE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain throughout the duration of employment, the following:

 ServSafe Certificate

 Class “C” valid California driver’s license

 CPR and First Aid Certificate

 Must attend defensive driving course within 30 days of employment and every 2 years thereafter.
