Modoc Medical Center has an opening for a full time, benefit eligible Utilization Review/Discharge Coordinator.

Wage Rate: $26.75-$39.28

Under the direction of the Quality/Risk/Compliance Director, the Utilization Review/Discharge Coordinator is responsible for analyzing patient records to determine legitimacy of admission, treatment, and length of stay in the health care facility to comply with government regulations and insurance company reimbursement policies.

The Utilization Review/Discharge Coordinator also assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the needs of patients for discharge planning and utilization review. They perform patient record assessments to ensure all documentation meets regulatory requirements. They perform any necessary task related to billing appropriate insurances for Swing or Inpatient stays, including obtaining appropriate authorizations for services, verifying insurance eligibility, and other revenue cycle related tasks. Discharge planning is coordinated with physicians, nursing staff, patient, and others who have an ongoing caring relationship with the patient.


  1. Current California LVN License required.
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  3. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  4. Above-average interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  5. Must be a team player to all departments.
  6. Confidential of sensitive data.
  7. Working knowledge of criteria for Medi-Cal, Partnership, HMO and Private insurance coverage.
  8. Knowledge of Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys and is actively involved in improving hospital scores.
  9. Experience in providing patient care.

Physical Demands

  • Able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Speaking/hearing on the phone and in person, reading, writing, close eye work.
